Sourcing agent in Yiwu

The world's largest wholesale market for small commodities — and the hub where verification matters most.

Yiwu is not a factory town. It is a market — tens of thousands of booths representing factories scattered across the province and beyond. That distinction decides everything about how you buy here.

What Yiwu is good for

Low unit value, high variety, low minimums. Yiwu is where you go for stationery, kitchen and household goods, toys and party supplies, hardware and tools, jewellery and accessories, bags, seasonal and promotional items.

Its structural advantage is breadth. If you need forty unrelated SKUs for a store or a promotional order, sourcing them individually across four provinces is expensive; sourcing them across one market district is not. MOQs are often measured in cartons rather than containers, which makes Yiwu the practical starting point for new sellers and for testing a product before committing to a production run.

What the booths actually are

Most booths in the Futian market are trading operations representing one or several factories. Some are the factory's own sales office; many are not. Neither is a problem in itself — what matters is knowing which you are dealing with, because it determines whether the price can move and who is accountable when a batch is wrong.

A booth cannot audit itself. When we source here, verification means tracing the booth back to the producing factory and checking that factory — not photographing the booth.

Breadth is the advantage. Traceability is the work.

How we work in Yiwu

  • Walk the district, not the listing. Product is handled physically before it goes on your shortlist.
  • Trace booth to factory. We identify the producing factory behind the booth and verify its licence, scope and records.
  • Consolidate across suppliers. A multi-SKU Yiwu order typically comes from a dozen different sellers. Consolidation into one shipment is where the freight economics live.
  • Inspect before consolidation. Once forty SKUs are mixed into one container, a defective batch is far harder to isolate and return.

Working out whether a Yiwu product is worth pursuing? We publish landed cost bands by category for the ones enough buyers have asked about — including collapsible storage boxes.

The risks that concentrate here

High volume plus low unit value plus many small sellers attracts opportunists. The recurring patterns are consistent: a price well below every other quote in the category, pressure to pay quickly, a bank account in a name that does not match the company, refusal to permit inspection, and communication only through personal messaging accounts.

Quality drift is the other one. A sample from a booth is not a guarantee about a production run made elsewhere — which is why inspection here is done against a written specification rather than against the sample you were shown.

Logistics from Yiwu

Yiwu goods usually leave through Ningbo. Multi-SKU consolidated orders are the norm, which means cartonisation, labelling and packing-list accuracy matter more than they do on a single-product container — a customs query on one SKU can hold the whole shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is a realistic minimum order in Yiwu?
Often far lower than a factory MOQ — cartons rather than containers for many stocked items. Custom colours, printing or packaging raise it. We give the realistic figure for your specification in the sourcing plan.
Can you source many different products in one order?
Yes, and that is Yiwu's main advantage. We consolidate across suppliers into a single shipment, with each SKU inspected before it enters the consolidated load.
How do I avoid being scammed in Yiwu?
Verify the business licence and export records, use staged payments tied to milestones, never release the balance before inspection, and use traceable payment channels. Be wary of prices far below the category and of any refusal to permit inspection.
Is buying from a booth the same as buying from a factory?
No. Most booths represent factories rather than being one. That is workable, but it changes who is accountable for a defect and how much room there is on price, so we trace the chain before recommending a supplier.
